Portugal

Get your kite coaching session(s) with us in the beautiful North of Portugal! You can book private or group kitesurf coaching (max. 6 people) from mid May 2024 until mid October 2024.

The flat water kitesurf spots are either Praia de Cabedelo near Viana do Castelo, or the lagoon in front of Esposende.

Riding a twintip not your thing? How about learning to shred waves at Praia de Ofir or Praia de Cabedelo? If you are a total surf board beginner we can even start in the lagoon to get comfortable with the surf board before we head into the waves. Zac is an excellent coach who will get you safely into wave riding, or help you improve your wave riding skills.

Spots:
Praia de Cabedelo
One of the most well known kitesurf spots in Portugal’s North, with a wide sandy beach to set up.

It offers flat water on the Northern end as well as waves further down the bay; works best with NW wind which blows between 16 and 25 knots in average. If there’s not much wind at the other spots around, you can most probably still go kitesurfing at Praia de Cabedelo.

You can reach the spot via a wooden walk way through a pine forest, that takes you in about 5 to 10 min from the next parking zone to the beach.

Wetsuit in summer: we recommend a 4/3; for those who are freezing quickly maybe a 5/4

Esposende Lagoon

This spot is situated directly opposite of the little town of Esposende in the mouth of the river Cavado. Therefore the water is flat to a bit choppy (in stronger winds) and definitely warmer than the sea most of the year. Best wind direction here is NNW. This spot has a sandy beach for setting up, too.
You can reach the spot in about 10 min via a wooden walk way through the dunes which separate the sea from the river mouth and offer very pretty views.

Wetsuit in summer: we recommend a 4/3

Praia de Ofir
This spot is just over the sand bar from the Esposende lagoon, so it’s easy to swap back and forth! Depending on where exactly you ride, you can expect small to middle sized friendly waves, perfect for wave beginners, or you can find faster and even barreling waves for more advanced riders.

Wetsuit in summer: we recommend a 4/3

Other stuff to do if there’s no wind:

Portugal has tons of non kitesurfing options, so you definitely won’t get bored! One easy option which works at both nearby beaches is to go surfing, as there are waves almost every day. If you fancy something completely away from the beach then you can go explore Porto, visit the Douro valley for wine tasting, or explore the nearby Peneda Geres national park.
